Chomp 'N' Cheeky
Patch Notes
Version: v1.0.0-alpha
Date: 28/08/2019

Comments:

Up until the 8th of July, I have been working on a game called Chomp 'N' Cheeky, and as some of you may have already seen, I have had released a shareware alpha version of Chomp 'N' Cheeky. This version is still subject to improvements, especially an upgrade in its graphics, adding sound, special effects and a loading and saving feature is still on the TODO list before making an official launch for the game.

However, in terms of gameplay, the shareware version is complete, and I now turn my attention to continue adding content to the full version of the game. The full version is what I was originally working on from February but in order to go public with my game development journey, I had to release the shareware version and work on some fundamental issues that were mentioned after it's release. Those issues were discussed in the shareware version's development log. Now, I am ready to add more content to the full version, and I want to make the full version accessible via a somewhat closed alpha testing to the public.

As I am currently streaming the development on Twitch twice a day, I am allowing anyone that is subscribed to the channel alpha testing access to the full version of Chomp 'N' Cheeky. To get access to the full version you will need to do the following:

  1. Subscribe to the Twitch Channel
  2. Join the Discord community
  3. Send me a Direct Message on Discord. My Discord is Luke Wolf#0817 - I will help organise your alpha testing access from there. I will need to know that you are a subscriber in order to give you access, to telling me your Twitch name is a good idea.
The full alpha version of Chomp 'N' Cheeky is on a restricted page on itch for you to access directly from your PC only, not a mobile device. I do plan on making the game mobile compatible after the game is fully developed.

I will be working with my subscribers on testing the game to complete before putting it on sale.

The following will detail a series of new features, enhancements and bug fixes since the last private internal release I made. This is quite a long list but it's to help to keep track of all the changes I have been making. I have documented previous releases of the full version in the private repository since v0.1.0-alpha. If you have any questions, please let me know!

25) Added two more sections (20 levels).

MODIFY:

1) Enhanced Chomp to focus bread if he is right next to it and moving past it if he had not eaten bread after so many steps during patrol. If he is not next to the bread he will assume random patrol movement and when he loses Cheeky, he will assume a random patrol movement even if he is next to bread for a few seconds before returning to his usual routine. This modification has been released to Sticky and Switch as well.
2) Clam AI refactored so performance is smoother on lower-end machines, also fixed a lot of bugs during the refactoring process.
3) Enhanced grass appears to be a darker green.
4) Enhanced Chomp's appearance by changing his colour to a light grey from a dark purple.
5) Enhanced Sticky's colour to a lighter green.
6) Changed the appearance and layout of the score screen.
7) HUD area has been visually enhanced to be more consistent with the style of the rest of the UI in the game.
8) Enhanced the game to be compatible with full screen.
9) Clams can now see and prioritise lollies ahead of standard patrol and bread focusing mechanics.
10) Enhanced Chomp so he stops and looks for Cheeky at his last seen location.
11) Changed the functionality for the browser uploaded versions of the game to remove any keybinding for the game that requires the alt key as this was interfering with browser functionality and would un-focus the game.
12) Reduced information clutter on the initial helper popup for the game.
13) Updated level 4's layout to make it more differentiating.
14) Border size increased for graphical implementation.
15) Added a level indicator on the HUD to show the player what level number they are on.
16) Enhanced Chomp's ability to determine which direction Cheeky goes in from his last seen location.

FIX:

1) Fixed an issue causing Sticky's tongue to shoot at the wrong angle.
2) Enhanced sticky's tongue as much as possible to prevent inconsistent positioning between pulling and shooting.
3) Fixed an issue causing Dash to disappear off the edge after running into a wall while chasing Cheeky.
4) Fixed an issue causing the dash to disappear off the edge of the game after hitting one of the walls.
5) Fixed an inconsistency where Switch was turning into a key before turning into a bread. This was later enhanced for other shapes that switch could turn into.
6) Fixed an issue causing Clams to eat bread prematurely when they stop to rotate.
7) Fixed an issue causing Switch to go over the wall and out of the level if he was knocked up.
8) Fixed an issue where Dash was not able to eat Cheeky if he was going at full charging speed with a wall behind Cheeky.
9) Fixed an issue where Switch was not staying stunned for 6 seconds if hit with Cheeky's hammer whilst shifting.
10) Fixed an issue where Sticky continues pulling himself out of the level when Cheeky is dead.
11) Fixed an issue allowing Dash to charge at Cheeky at an off-set angle.
12) Fixed an issue where Clams were staying white with no knockback when stunned while rotating.
13) Fixed an issue with Dash getting knocked out without crashing into anything after Charging at Cheeky.
14) Fixed an issue causing the dash to rotate into obstacles before changing direction again.
15) Fixed an issue causing the game to get stuck when Cheeky dies at the same time a Clam is stunned.
16) Enhanced Hammer slam and SFX appearing more than once which was causing a possible memory leaking issue.
17) Fixed an issue causing the level accomplishment score to given at the start of the level as opposed to after completing the level.
18) Fixed an issue causing the bug report form to not work when the game is uploaded to a browser.
19) Fixed an issue where if Cheeky died while he was invisible, his invisibility would not cancel.
20) Fixed an issue causing buttons to move up and down between hovering the mouse over the button.
21) Fixed title and button misalignment for all pop-ups.
22) Fixed an issue where Chomp would see Cheeky but ignore him just before picking a new direction during a patrol.
23) Fixed an issue which allowed a hidden life to be picked up on starting a level.
24) Enhanced performance with Clam AI routine from timer dependant to movement steps dependant.
25) Fixed a bug where Dash would be able to eat Cheeky while he was spawning and skip the 'yum' animation.
